Companion terms of service
Mindhelpa Companion – Support for your mind, every day.
By Mindhelpa Clinical Team · Last updated: 31 October 2026
Please read these terms before you start your trial. They are a contract between you and Mindhelpa Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16592881), registered office Aacsl Accountants House Unit 9, Astra Centre, Edinburgh Way, Harlow, Essex, United Kingdom, CM20 2BN ("we", "us"). Our privacy notice explains how we use your information.
1. Companion is an AI, not a doctor and not a crisis service
Companion is an AI, not a doctor and not a crisis service. In an emergency call 999.
Mindhelpa Companion is a general wellbeing and self-help app for adults aged 18 and over in the UK.
What it does not do:
- It does not diagnose, assess risk, monitor, treat or prevent any mental health condition.
- It does not give advice about medication.
- It is not a substitute for professional care, and it is not therapy.
- It is not designed for people in crisis.
The AI is not a doctor, and no one is watching chats live. Companion does not contact emergency services or anyone else for you, and does not guarantee that a person will read any message.
If you're struggling, please talk to your GP or one of the free services listed at the end of these terms.
2. Who can use Companion
- You must be 18 or over and live in the UK.
- You give your date of birth when you sign up. If something suggests you might be under 18, we'll pause chat until you confirm your age. We may close accounts that belong to under-18s.
- One account per person. Keep your email account secure, because we sign you in with a link sent to it.
3. Your account and consents
When you sign up, you agree to these terms. You confirm that you understand Companion's limits. You also give your explicit consent for us to use your health information to provide the service. Without that consent we can't provide Companion. You can withdraw it at any time: we'll offer you a copy of your data and then close your account.
4. Price, free trial and renewal
- Companion costs £20 a month, including VAT.
- New subscribers get a 7-day free trial, once per person. We take your card details at the start, through Stripe. You won't be charged if you cancel before the trial ends.
- Before you pay, we show you the price, the date your trial ends, how renewal works and how to cancel.
- We email you 3 days before your trial ends.
- After the trial, your subscription renews every month at the same price until you cancel. If we ever change the price, we'll email you at least 30 days before the new price applies, and you can cancel before it does.
- If a payment fails, we'll email you. You keep access for 7 days while you update your card.
5. Cancelling and refunds
- Cancel any time, online, from your Account page ("Manage or cancel subscription"). There are no calls and no forms. Your access continues to the end of the period you've paid for.
- Changed your mind? After your trial turns into a paid subscription, you have 14 days to cancel for a refund of that payment.
- Deleting your account also cancels your subscription straight away.
6. Fair use
Chat has a daily fair-use limit. Crisis information, your safety plan and messages showing you may be at risk are never limited. Your safety plan, the crisis numbers and downloading your data stay available even without a subscription.
7. Free chat
The free chat is not available at launch. When it is, you may be offered a short free chat (5 messages) before you sign up. You must be 18 or over to use it. It works in the same way and has the same limits as Companion. It is deleted within 24 hours unless you bring it into a new account. If a free chat message shows someone might be at risk, that chat ends and shows free sources of help instead. Paid offers aren't shown on that browser or network for a while (see our privacy notice).
8. Using Companion properly
Please don't:
- use Companion to harm yourself or anyone else;
- try to get it to produce harmful, illegal or abusive content;
- try to break, overload or get around its safety features or limits;
- use automated tools to access it;
- share your account;
- copy or resell the service.
We may pause or close an account that breaks these rules. We'll tell you why, unless the law or safety reasons prevent it.
9. AI replies
Companion's replies are written by AI. They can be wrong, incomplete or not right for you. Use your own judgement, and don't rely on them for medical decisions. What Companion remembers is written automatically and may be inaccurate. You can see and delete it at any time.
10. Your content
What you write stays yours. You let us use it only to provide Companion to you, as described in the privacy notice. We don't use your conversations to train AI models.
11. Changes and availability
- We aim to keep Companion available, but it may sometimes be unavailable, for example for maintenance or when our AI supplier is down. If chat isn't available, we'll show you free sources of help.
- We may update Companion and these terms. We'll tell you before any important change takes effect. If you don't agree, you can cancel.
12. Our responsibility to you
- If we fail to meet these terms, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our failure or our negligence.
- We don't exclude or limit our liability where it would be unlawful to do so. This includes death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, and your rights as a consumer, for example under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
- Apart from that liability, which the law doesn't let us limit, our total liability to you under these terms is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the event that led to your claim.
- Companion is for personal use. We are not responsible for business losses.
13. Ending the contract
You can end it at any time by cancelling (section 5) or deleting your account. We can end it if you seriously break these terms, or with reasonable notice if we stop providing Companion. In that case we'll refund any period you've paid for but can't use.
14. Complaints and contact
Email support@mindhelpa.com. For data protection, contact the Data Protection Officer, Mindhelpa Ltd, at support@mindhelpa.com with the subject line "Data protection". We'll try to resolve any problem quickly.
15. Law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts, and your local consumer law still protects you.
